ORIGINAL PLUMBLING
THE FEMINIST PRESS, 2019
Original Plumbing (OP) was a quarterly magazine dedicated to trans men. Creators / editors-in-chief, Amos Mac and Rocco Kayiatos launched the magazine in September 2009 and continued to independently publish it for the next ten years.
In February 2013, Rocco and Amos reached out to their readers and asked for support. As their business grew, they needed to provide a more accessible website for their fans and followers. They used a crowdfunding platform as a way to raise money to build a new website.
Aside from making my own small donation, I also drew a one-panel comic of Rocco and Amos. I shared it on my blog as a way to spread the word.
Not only did Original Plumbing meet their goal, but the illustration of Amos and Rocco was featured in The Hero Issue.
When an open call for submissions was put out for Issue 18, I submitted a comic about an experience I had in the men's restroom.
In this edition, the editors wanted to discuss issues beyond the bathroom. While public restrooms often elicit fear and anxiety, I decided to create a comic based on a positive experience I had in a restroom.
