NEW YORK MAGAZINE
PUBLISHED: June 22, 2023
I was thrilled to work on this assignment for New York magazine, and it was a pleasure to work with an art director and editors who were equally enthusiastic about the project.
The publication assembled a guide for trans youth and their parents titled "The Transgender Family Handbook." The handbook provided 14 pages of information on coming out, gender-affirming care, navigating schools, and so much more.
As cited on New York's website, this article was also "a National Magazine Award finalist for excellence in service journalism." The article remains updated "so it continues to be a resource for transgender kids and their families."
I created an illustration for the title page and five additional illos for each chapter within the guide. The piece ran in printed copies of New York magazine and online at The Cut.
The senior art director asked me to draw images that evoked the same sentiment as my comics, which are drawn from my personal experience as a trans man.
